Reiki (pronounced Ray-key) is a form of energy healing that originated in Japan in the early 20th century. Original teachings started with Mikao Usui, a Buddhist Monk who created the healing system known as Reiki. The word “Reiki” comes from two Japanese words: “Rei,” which means universal or spiritual, and “Ki,” which means life force energy, the vital energy that flows through all living things. Reiki is often described as “universal life force energy.”
The practice of Reiki involves channeling this energy through the hands of a practitioner to the person receiving the treatment, promoting physical, emotional, and spiritual healing. The energy flows through the body, helping to clear blockages and restore balance, leading to a sense of well-being and harmony. It does not harm and because it flows through us and not from us, our energy is never depleted.
How does Reiki work?
- Energy Flow: The practitioner uses their hands to transmit healing energy into the recipient’s body, either by lightly touching or holding their hands just above the body. It’s believed that the energy flows where it is needed, restoring balance to the body’s energy field.
- Self-healing and Balance: Reiki can help clear out negative energy or emotional blockages and can also aid in balancing the body’s chakras (energy centers). It is said to promote relaxation, reduce stress, and encourage the body’s natural healing processes.
- Holistic Healing: Reiki works on all levels—physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual. Many people report feeling a sense of deep relaxation, peace, and clarity after a Reiki session. It is also said to support overall health and well-being by enhancing the body’s natural ability to heal itself.
In Reiki, the belief is that we all have an innate ability to heal ourselves, and Reiki helps to tap into that energy, supporting our natural healing abilities. Reiki is non-invasive, gentle, and can be used alongside other forms of medical or therapeutic treatments, making it a complementary healing practice.
“The system of Reiki is always changing…Perhaps because it already has been changed many times…Mikao Usui’s teachings have constantly been altered and adopted to suit the people who practice them and the world they live in.” (The Reiki Sourcebook” by Bronwen and Frans Stiene). Many students however, are returning to the origins.
There are different levels of Reiki, with each level allowing practitioners to deepen their understanding and connection to energy. In Level 1 (which you’re beginning), practitioners typically learn to channel Reiki for self-healing and to treat others through hands-on techniques. Reiki is used in both eastern and western traditions and can be a supportive complementary way of caring for yourself and others.
Reiki is not ego or power over others, a religion, a cure, a substitute for medical care. Reiki reaches beyond any words or ideas, gives you what you need at the giving moment and flows for your highest good.
Gosia has completed all levels of Reiki training and has two Master Teacher diplomas plus A.M.A.H.T. (Ascended Masters Ancient Healing Technique) training: all 8 levels.
All donations from sessions and classes go towards a chosen local charity which is Bridge of Estes (helping cancer patients receive the care they need).
